There are so many amazing resources and websites for writers that are filled with huge amounts of information. I’m humbled and grateful for all the many experienced authors and agents sharing their knowledge freely.
And I think everyone should take advantage of them! We all have much to learn.
Here are some websites that are full of great writing resources and worth checking out. Enjoy!
Websites for Writers
The Creative Penn
Joanna Penn is completely brilliant, with loads of experience and an inspiring story of how she became a full time writer and creative entrepreneur. She has lots of encouraging and informative posts, podcasts, and resources covering everything from writing, publishing, self-publishing, marketing, and living the creative life.
Helping Writers Become Writers
This site by K. M. Weiland was one of the first story craft blogs I started reading years ago. There is a ton of info on character arcs and story outlining in particular, and a fun series on what we can learn from story telling in the Marvel universe.
DIY MFA
The tag line here is “Write More, Write Better, Write Smarter,” and I don’t know about you, but I want all of those things! The goal of this site is to provide all of the resources, info, and community of a MFA without, you know, actually going back to school for an MFA.
Fiction University
Janice Hardy’s Fiction University is another site I’ve been reading for years, and even then I’ve barely scratched the surface of the huge wealth of solid information available here. You could search any subject you’re struggling with and find answers, or browse through archives on Developing Your Novel to Selling Your Novel, and everything in between.
CreativINDIE
Derek Murphy is passionate about everyone being able to tell and share their story. He has experience in writing, editing, formatting, and design, and is a goldmine of info especially for writers considering self-publishing. Tons of free videos, design templates, and ebooks.
Reedsy
Along with the plethora of informative blog posts on every writing subject, check out their free classes and formatting tools. I formatted my ebook Steps To Success on their site, and if I can do it so can you!
Mythcreants
This site is both amusing and informative, and frequently both at the same time which is a winning combo. Great info on storytelling, woldbuilding, and characters, Mythcreants frequently uses popular movies to illustrate their points. Also resources available here for gamers.
Nathan Bransford
Last but not least, Nathan Bransford! Nathan has years of experience as an agent and states “My blog has everything you need to know to write, edit, and publish a book.” What more could we want? His blog is down to earth and provides solid info on the topics we need.
